Wiz Khalifa to get studio time with Dre

Wiz Khalifa is looking forward to spending some time in the studio with Dr. Dre after the two met for the first time and the veteran rapper let Wiz know that he was interested in working on a collab.  Although Khalifa didn’t have too many details to offer about the collaboration, he did expect that the he and Dre would be able to come up with something incredible when they hit the studio together.

Wiz Khalifa says that he recently met Dr. Dre for the first time at Rick Ross’ Birthday party just prior to Coachella which gave them an opportunity to work together and the rapper explained that he’s already scheduled some time in the studio to record with The Good Doctor. “I just talked to Dre the other day for the first time. We had to talk about the set for Coachella. It was funny, because he actually just called to tell me he’d talk to me later,” said Khalifa. The ‘Black and Yellow’ rapper didn’t have much to say about when his recordings with Dre will come out but he did expect their studio sessions to produce incredible results saying, “It’s gonna be amazing, man.”

Dr Dre Coachella set Week 2

The field is just as crazy as last week, the stage banter is starting off the same and "Gin and Juice" was the third song in the set again at Coachella 2012.

However, the crowd is even more amped than last week, which I didn't think would be possible thanks to the Coachella weekend two heat wave. The "Gin and Juice" singalong was even louder.
Well played, Coachella fans. Well played.

"Nuthin But a 'G' Thang" is also making the crowd go crazy.

The biggest difference between Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's headlining set tonight and last Sunday was that everyone knew about the Tupac Shakur hologram and had their smartphones and cameras ready to capture the hologram for "Hail Mary" and "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted."

Beyond that, the hip-hop legends delivered a parade of hip-hop stars again, including Eminem, Wiz Khalifa, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar and Tony Yayo.

Kurupt didn't make the trip this week, though.

That being said, while the set list was just like last week, it still delivered in an epic way and was a fitting end to the most epic Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival yet, one that saw the ever-popular taste-making pop culture event expand to two weekends with identical lineups.

Judging by the incredibly packed field, the fans approved

Dre's Coachella message-thanks fans/quashes Tupac tour rumours (Video)

On Sunday night, April 22 when he's set to close Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Dr. Dre posted a video message from the backstage of the event. The rapper thanked his fans for all the support they gave to him, and took time to talk about rumors suggesting he would tour with a virtual Tupac Shakur.

Wearing a white t-shirt and cap, the Doc said to the camera, "It was strictly for Coachella, get it right. I want to get rid of all the rumors out there. This was not done for a tour." He, however, didn't completely rule out the possibility, "If a tour happens, we'll see. This was done strictly for Coachella 2012, just for you."

Dre became talk of the town on the first weekend of Coachella after he and Snoop Dogg brought Tupac to life via hologram image during their set. The likes of Rihanna, Katy Perry, Warren G, Kendrick Lamar and Wiz Khalifa have all gushed about the stunt. In a recent radio interview, T.I. called it "an 'oh s**t' moment."

In a separate chat, Nas said, "It just shows you how amazing Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg are, and how they hard they're riding for their West Coast brother Tupac, in the name of Hip Hop music. I thought it was a great look for Hip Hop as a whole - it stepped Hip Hop up a notch. And it was also revolutionary on a performance scale...that's what it's all about."

Common, meanwhile, raved, "I think the fact that we can continue to pay homage to what Tupac meant to Hip Hop and to music and to the culture [is] great. Unfortunately the brother passed, but the fact that we can give people the vehicle for people to enjoy and remember what he means to music and our culture is great as a whole."

Dre himself stated, "Hopefully, you know, different artists are able to bring out their favorite artists." He added, "Hopefully, we can see Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye."

Dre asked Afeni for hologram & donates to The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation

Tupac's famously protective mother Afeni Shakur agrees with the rest of the planet -- the rapper's resurrection at Coachella this weekend ... in the form of an incredibly lifelike hologram ... was mind-blowingly awesome.

A rep for Afeni tells TMZ, she was absolutely positively THRILLED with Tupac's virtual performance -- when he appeared alongside Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg during the headlining show at Coachella last night ... walking back and forth across the stage like he was actually present.

Afeni didn't attend the performance -- but we're told she watched it unfold live on the Internet ... but while it was thrilling, the entire experience was bittersweet.

The rep says Dr. Dre asked Afeni for approval to incorporate Pac into his performance -- and she said yes. As a thank you, we're told Dre made a donation to the rapper's charity ... The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.

TMZ also spoke with Dre's crewmate Daz Dillinger -- who tells us, Nate Dogg was originally supposed to appear as a hologram as well, but the decision was made at the last minute not to use him. Nate got a video tribute instead.

Suge Knight is furious about Dre's Tupac Hologram…You'll never guess why!

Not everyone is a fan of the technology you used to create a 3D hologram of Tupac - but the reason why is a bit of a shocker!

Suge Knight has revealed that unlike many, who where blown away with the rapper bringing his late friend 'to life' during his Coachella set, he is furious that the people behind the illusion neglected to include his iconic Death Row Records chain!
Suge explains:
"At the end of the day, how you gonna take the Death Row chain off Pac? That's like taking the Raiders symbol off the Raiders."
Uh-oh! That's a serious accusation!
To be fair, we'd argue that the technology is still pretty new, and so the fact that they were able to do what they did is an impressive feat alone!

The chain is important detail, but hey! It's just that - a detail!

What do U think?? Was the exemption of Tupac's chain from the hologram forgivable?

Dre Hopes Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye Follow 'Pac As Holograms

Before Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg closed out Coachella on Sunday night, there were rumors that the long-deceased Tupac Shakur would make an appearance via hologram, but it truly took seeing to believe it.

In the days since, it's been confirmed that Holo-Pac was "Dr. Dre's Vision," and now the good doctor admits that he hopes to see the technology spread. TMZ caught up with Dre in Los Angeles, where he graciously — and enthusiastically — answered questions about the hologram, which has been described as his brainchild. Dre didn't give any predictions for how popular hologram performances might become, but he did reveal the next step, in terms of technology.

"I'm not sure right now, [there's] a technology that's happening where the hologram could be 360 degrees," Dre said, explaining how the hologram would likely evolve. "Right now it's flat, it just looks like it's 3-dimensional from the front, but I'm working on some new and different things for the future."

Dre seemed to be very proud of the success of Holo-Pac, adding, "I think everybody's in love with it right now, so we're having fun."

The legendary producer doesn't seem to be too invested in the moral debates about resurrecting dead musicians, saying that he hopes his hologram will inspire other spin-offs. "Hopefully, different artists are able to bring out their favorite artists," he said. "Hopefully, we can see Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye. Let's see what happens."

Before we see Jimi Hendrix onstage, however, the biggest hologram rumor in circulation is that Dre would take the holographic Tupac on tour, to which he replied, "Thinking about it, nothing for sure."

Earlier in the week, MTV News spoke with Nick Smith, president of AV Concepts, the San Diego company that provided the technology for the hologram. "We worked with Dr. Dre on this and it was Dre's vision to bring this back to life," Smith said. "It was his idea from the very beginning and we worked with him and his camp to utilize the technology to make it come to life."

C-Bo calls Dre & Snoop 'Parasites' for using Tupac Hologram

All the buzz surrounding Dr. Dre's use of a hologram version of Tupac at Sunday's (April 15) Coachella Music & Arts Festival is sparking reactions from all types of people, from newcomers who never saw the late rapper in person to seasoned veterans who worked alongside him while he was alive.

Most recently, veteran Sacramento-bred rapper C-Bo, who worked with Pac a handful of times in the 1990s, spoke out against Dr. Dre's use of Pac's likeness, calling both him and Snoop Dogg "parasites" for using Tupac's presence for profit.

In a recent interview with HipHopDX, he expressed his disgust over it.

"These n****s is like vultures, man. Parasites. They trying to suck blood from a corpse," Bo said. "[Tupac] wasn't even f***in' with fake, phony-ass n****s. 'Pac was a real n****, man. And these n****s all coming out trying to use old verses and all this sh**, man, I just think that's some way out sh**. I ain't got no respect for a n**** like that."

For those unfamiliar with C-Bo, he's a vet within the independent hip-hop scene, releasing over 11 albums to date, each offering a grime insight into the world of gangbangin' and drive-bys.

He befriended Tupac during the mid-'90s, after the late icon had begun reaching out to him before signing to Death Row Records. Finally, the two linked up and recorded two tracks -- "Tradin' War Stories" and "Ain't Hard 2 Find" -- that would go on to appear on Pac's classic, double-disc album, All Eyez On Me.

Despite C-Bo's feelings toward Dre's digital resurrection of Pac, he may hear more about it in the coming months ... because, word is, Dre and Snoop are discussing plans to take a version of their Coachella performance on the road for a full tour.

However, nothing has been confirmed as of press time.

C-Bo is gearing up for the release of a street album called Cali Connection soon, following by his next official project, Orca: The Killer Whale of the Hood, coming in July.

Dre takes 3rd spot in Forbes Hip Hop richlist

Diddy creeps closer to becoming the first billionaire in the hip hop industry as he tops the newly released ‘Forbes Five’ list.

Making money and hip hop have become two in the same over the years seeing how money is the subject of your choice for most rappers on the mainstream scene these days. Every year Forbes documents who has the highest net worth in the rap game with their exclusive ‘Forbes Five’ list.

The list points out the 5 rappers with the highest net worth, and 2012 proves that Diddy may actually be the first rapper to turn billionaire. Sean Diddy Combs topped the list with a net worth of $550 million, a number that should see a massive increase during 2013 when Diddy launches his Revolt cable channel.

Jay-Z follows relatively close at $460 million, who is followed by a distant third place Dr. Dre worth $270 million. The number four slot goes to Bryan Birdman Williams with a net worth of $125 million, and 50 Cent rounds out the exclusive list with $110 million to his name.

Dre has a massive vision for Tupac Hologram

As chants of “Tupac Back” rise across social media platforms and throughout the blogosphere after the hologram appearance of 2Pac at Coachella, it appears that the crescendo of voices could motivate Dr. Dre to tour with the revived rap legend. Sources close to Dre told the Wall Street Journal that the business teams of the legendary producer and Snoop Dogg are discussing the possibility of taking the digital 2Pac on tour.

Although the 2Pac hologram appearance had been in the works for a year, Digital Domain, the company who helmed the project, and projection company AV Concepts said it took about four months to recreate the eerily lifelike images of the late Shakur. Folks on the Digital Domain side are proud of their creative coup, hinting that Dr. Dre has big plans for the hologram.

“To create a completely synthetic human being is the most complicated thing that can be done,” said Digital Domain's Ed Ulbrich. “This is not found footage. This is not archival footage. This is an illusion. This is just the beginning. Dre has a massive vision for this.”

2Pac isn't the first entertainer to appear as a hologram as AV Concepts and other companies have done similar projects in the past. However, 2Pac is the first time a deceased artist has been recreated for a live performance.

Kendrick Lamar Talks Aftermath Deal, Approach To Business

Kendrick Lamar explains why TDE signed with Aftermath and talks about his approach to the business of music.

Fresh off his performance at Coachella, Kendrick Lamar dropped by DJ Skee's studio to chop it up about his upcoming debut LP Good Kid in a Mad City. During the interview, the Compton emcee spoke on his and Top Dawg Entertainment's recent record deal with Dr. Dre's imprint Aftermath Records.

Kendrick explained that the crew decided to align with Dre because of what Dre had to offer them in experience. He noted that Dre recognized TDE's unity and grass roots beginnings, saying that he wanted to offer them the best platform for them to continue making the kind of music they had previously made.

"We had tons of offers on the table - money, money, money - any individual would've took the money fast, but it was about these labels knowing the imprint we already put on the game - our sound and not trying to change that," he explained. "Dre knew exactly what we were trying to do; he'd been [with] Death Row, he'd been [with] Aftermath, these [are] from the bottom to the top labels. That's what Top Dawg is; he recognized that, he recognized we move as a unit, and we're going to continue to push that now. What Dre can do is continue to show us the guides and the steps to how he got to the point where he is at with Aftermath."

K. Dot also explained his and TDE's approach to the business aspect of music. He recalled how he was reluctant to sell his debut 2010 mixtape O.verly D.edicated at such an early stage in his career, but TDE founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith had faith that Lamar's fan base would be willing to support their movement. After seeing the TDE line-up's fortune over the past year, Lamar says he now realizes that his fans will be willing to pay for music because of its quality.

"When we first decided to sell the O.D., I didn't want to sell [it] because I didn't feel like people were ready and they didn't understand where I was coming from as far as the music I was doing - they just weren't ready to buy a Kendrick Lamar CD," he said. "Top Dawg made something to me - he said, 'If you want to change the face [of Hip Hop] and make people stop complaining about the music that they're hearing on the radio, make these muthafuckas go out and really appreciate the music and spend their last dollar on it, or else you're going to keep complaining about it.' And that made a lot of sense to me…we all felt like my music is that damn good where you can go out and spend their few dollars on it…when we did that, muthafuckas did go out and actually buy it - and actually, a whole lot of muthafuckas went out [and bought it]…so what it started off with was believing in the music first."

JoiStarr interview - talks Dr Dre, Coachella surprises, Detox

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg will turn the desert into one giant West Coast party when they hit the stage for a co-headlining performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this Sunday and again on April 22 in Indio, Calif. Joining them will be plenty of surprise guests (Eminem? Wiz Khalifa?) and JoiStaRR, who will provide background vocals.

The L.A.-based singer-songwriter, who previously toured with Kanye West, took a break from rehearsals to speak to Rap-Up.com about being a part of the historic hip-hop moment. Find out what you can expect from the highly-anticipated show, whether we’ll get to hear some long-awaited Detox material, and some of the surprises that await.

So how did this all come together?
Adam Blackstone, who was Kanye’s former musical director—we worked together on the “Glow in the Dark” tour—he called me the day after I got back from SXSW and he’s like, “Are you available to do some shows with Dr. Dre for Coachella?” I’m like, “Well, sure. Let me check my schedule, but I’m sure I can clear it.” So a few weeks passed and he called me and said we’re locked in and we need to come to rehearsal.

What’s Dr. Dre like?
He’s very, very into his craft. I’m very inspired by his work ethic. He’s there at rehearsal on time, he’s there ready to work, and I think that’s very inspiring for someone like me, an up-and-coming artist to see someone that’s established still be that hungry and that focused. His personality is really laid-back and he’s just really cool. Him and his wife are very, very generous, lovely people. I felt at home right away and I had only known them like a week. I feel like his little sister at this point.

Where have you been rehearsing?
We rehearsed in Burbank and then we moved production to an airport hangar in Santa Monica because the stage is so huge, we need to rehearse lighting and all that type of stuff. The stage is amazing. I can’t wait for people to see it and to see people’s reaction to what actually takes place. There’s a lot of surprises and a lot of surprise guests. People are gonna be very happy when they see the show.

What material will you guys be performing?
We’re gonna basically be performing all of Dre’s hits and then Snoop’s. It’s going to be very epic and I’m just really grateful to be a part of history being made. Dre said that this year it will be 20 years that him and Snoop have been working together since they did “Deep Cover.” And that’s amazing to even be a part of this moment in their lives. I get to be onstage singing with everyone involved. It’s gonna be crazy.

Are we going to hear any new stuff? Maybe something off Detox?
Umm… OK, yes [laughs].

Rolling Stone reported that Eminem and Wiz Khalifa will be among the surprise guests.
I’m not gonna say anything. We’ll just have to see if they show up.

Nate Dogg is said to be appearing via a hologram, according to TMZ.
I’m not privy to that information, but there’s definitely a tribute to Nate Dogg.

What would you tell fans who are attending Coachella this weekend?
They can expect to have wide-open mouths and a jaw-dropping experience with this show. It’s gonna be very huge. Apparently it’s supposed to be like 100,000 people coming. It’s gonna be packed, it’s gonna be amazing, it’s gonna be fun. They’re gonna hear all their favorite songs and some stuff that they’ve been dying to hear.

JoiStaRR’s debut album Magic is due this summer on My Block Inc. Download her mixtape Magic Monday and listen to her single “I’m Not Bleeding” below.

Kendrick Lamar talks about Dre's Coachella set

This Friday April 13 marks the beginning of the Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival, and some of the west coast's finest Hip Hop stars or coming out in full force. Now, one of the festival's featured acts, Kendrick Lamar, gives fans some insight on what to expect this year.

Kendrick Lamar recently chopped it up with the LA Leakers about "The Recipe" partner Dr. Dre's anticipated set at Coachella. Although the Compton rapper kept tight-lipped about what to expect, he said that Dre's set with Snoop Dogg will rival Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne tour.

"Man, energy, Dre was just locked in rehearsing this joint," he explained. "People are gonna cry…I hope this ain't peoples' first show seeing a concert in general, 'cus after this one…I think Dre just got all the way turned-up when he started saying that Watch the Throne was probably one of one the best shows he's seen…yeah, [he got competitive]."

Earlier today, news broke that the late Nate Dogg will perform at Coachella through a hologram.

Nate Dogg guest appearance as hologram, with Dre at Coachella

Nate Dogg isn't letting a little thing like death keep him away from Coachella this weekend -- sources tell TMZ, the rapper will be making a very special guest appearance on stage ... in the form of a HOLOGRAM.

Sources tell us, Dr. Dre didn't want to leave Nate out of his Sunday performance -- so he's incorporating his old friend using hologram technology ... the same technology that broadcast Mariah Carey's image across Europe last year ... at 5 simultaneous concerts.

We're told an image of Nate will be projected onto the Coachella stage -- alongside Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Warren G, and Daz Dillinger -- to make it appear as though he's actually performing on stage.

According to sources, Nate will perform several songs.

The singer passed away last March -- just weeks before last year's Coachella festival.

Eminem, Warren G will Join Dre & Snoop Dogg at Coachella

Warren G has announced that he and Eminem will perform with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg at the duo's headlining set on the third night of the Coachella festival. Kendrick Lamar and Daz Dillinger are also confirmed to perform as part of Dre and Snoop's set, and Rolling Stone has learned that Wiz Khalifa will also make an appearance.

It is unclear whether or not all of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's guests will appear at both of their Coachella appearances, as the duo are set to headline on April 15th and 22nd. There is some possibility that the shows will vary somewhat, and that other guests may be announced later, or appear on stage without notice.

Scoop DeVille talks working with Kendrick Lamar & Dre on 'The Recipe'

Scoop DeVille talks producing "The Recipe" for Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre, and says to expect more work from him and K. Dot.

The Internet has been buzzing over the past few days after the release of Kendrick Lamar's Dr. Dre-assisted single off Good Kid in a Mad City titled "The Recipe." Now, the song's producer Scoop DeVille speaks on the record and how it came about.

In a recent interview with Bootleg Kev for Hot 97.5 in Las Vegas, Scoop explained that rapper Stat Quo was instrumental in connecting him with Dr. Dre. He said that Stat actually showed Dre the song, and that within an hour of hearing it, Dre snagged it up for Lamar's LP. Scoop also added that the song will be one of a few of his productions featured on K. Dot's debut.

"Man it's unreal, it's still catching up to me right now as we speak. My phone hasn't stopped ringing," he said. "I always knew Kendrick from back in the day when we were just grinding here with a lot of the rappers on the scene…Stat Quo was over at my house, and we were just playing beats, and I was playing him all the new stuff I had, and he was like, 'I'ma play some of this stuff for [Dr.] Dre'…I didn't expect anything 'cus some of the records weren't sounding west coast or anything that Dre would do normally. I got the phone call within an hour from Dre, and they were like, 'We want to work with these records,' and sure enough, they fell in love with [that record] and that's the record that everybody wanted to focus on to be as the single."

He added, "We've got a few singles in the pipeline also for [Kendrick's album]. I think everybody is going to be pretty amazed once they hear everything, 'cus Kendrick is real talented and it's just cool to be a part of the movement with Dre."

Scoop also spoke on the unique sample featured in the song. He said that he actually looked to indie rock group Twin Sister's "Meet the Frownies" for the production, explaining that he heard the cut on the radio and immediately saw its hit potential.

"[The sample is of] a group called Twin Sister, and the song is called 'Meet the Frownies,'" he explained. "It's like an indie rock joint that I heard on an indie station out here [in Los Angeles] before I was going out of town…and the record just came on and I was just real captivated by it and it won me over right when it started. I was like, 'Yo, I got to do something with this, I know this could be something big.'"

Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre Discuss New Song, 'The Recipe'

Earlier today (April 2), Dr. Dre and Kendrick Lamar talked to L.A.'s Power 106's Big Boy, of Big Boy's Neighborhood, Lamar's new single, "The Recipe." Check it out below.

"The Recipe," originally titled "Women, Weed & Weather," is an ode to the essentials of West Coast living. "When you discuss your love for lust/ Just make sure you visit here first/ Cali," Kendrick Lamar rhymes on "Recipe."

"Old title was 'Women, Weed & Weather,' Dre told Big Boy. 'That's the three things you need in life. 'The Recipe' is when you mix it all up,' Lamar chimed in.

The feel-good cut, produced by Scoop DeVille ( Snoop Dogg, Game, 50 Cent), will reportedlyl be featured on K.Dot's upcoming Aftermath/Interscope/ Top Dawg Entertainment debut album.

"This track was done by a guy named Scoop DeVille, and we just went into the studio and added our elements to it. I mixed it up. Kendrick wrote the words. It came together and we fell in love with it," Dre said.
